Railway mobile bridge in Sevilla Port
Sevilla, Spain
Structural typology Tender Design
Date April, 2023
Owner Puerto de Sevilla
Draft of the Preliminary Design for a Movable Railway Bridge to Provide Access, Crossing the Port Basin, to the Container Terminal at the Port of Seville

Study of Alternatives for Opening and Closing the Movable Span:

Vertical Lift Bridge
The central piers will be used to lift the movable span of the deck, which must have a vertical clearance similar to that of the Centenario Bridge (42 m). The lifting system for this solution is relatively simple, as the weight of the deck is balanced with counterweights located in the towers.

Rotary Bridge
The opening mechanism operates towards the basin to avoid being positioned under the Centenario Bridge. The deck is designed with a U-shaped steel section, which is filled with concrete at the rear to act as a counterweight.

Bascule Bridge
The Delicias Bridge, located in the Port of Seville, serves as an example of this type. The proposed solution consists of two leaves with a U-shaped steel section. The two lateral beams are ballasted with concrete at the rear to counterbalance the corresponding cantilevers.
