New bridge over Torrente Pora
Finale Ligure, Italy
Structural typology Tender Design
Date September, 2023
Owner Comune di Finale Ligure
Concept. The design concept for the new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Pora stream, in rational and emotional dialogue with the territory, is of great architectural and functional value as it seamlessly connects SP490 with the urban traffic flow of Via Dante Alighieri, at the confluence of the Pora and Aquila streams. The design solution adopted for the new bridge allows both streams to flow freely without obstacles, as no piers are planned in the riverbed. The bridge stands out for its modern design, with a clear architectural identity that does not overshadow the existing valuable elements. Notably, the proximity of the new bridge to the Finalborgo area, which represents a significant historical, cultural, and landscape constraint, guided the designers towards a realization based on dialogue, without dominance, between the two elements. The bridge, thus configured, distinguishes itself as an element that enriches the territory, ensuring a new image of the area while simultaneously solving existing traffic problems. The project aspires not to go unnoticed: this project aims for an architecturally avant-garde structure that addresses a multifaceted functional-structural-landscape problem. In short, a design concept that could be summarized in three words: Integration, Territory, Mobility.
