Axis Building en Plaza Colón
Madrid, Spain
Architect Foster + Partners
Structural typology Office Buildings
Date August, 2020
Owner CBRE Global Investors
Refurbishment of the building located at Colón 1 Square. The main structure is adapted to new commercial use in three of the levels, while the rest will be offices. The project includes the opening of a large central atrium, the removal of the existing façade and the execution of a new one as a diagrid and a catenary structure that will create a garden on the roof.

Foster + Partners presented recently the last project of the firm in Madrid. It includes the refurbishment of the building located at Colon Square 1, in the city center, and property of the American fund CBRE Global Investors since last year.

Located at the junction of Paseo de la Castellana (North-South) and Génova Street (East-West), where the limits of Salamanca, Chamberí and Centro neighbourhoods meet, this AXIS Building arises as a new reference in Madrid’s architecture.

FHECOR participates directly in this interesting project, carrying out an assessment and refurbishment of the existing structure to update it to the new requirements, and working at the new and distinctive diagrid of the façade as well as at one structure of catenaries that will allow creating a garden at the roof with a view of Colón Square.
