2025 ACHE Award

The Gordie Howe International Bridge has received the 2025 ACHE Award in the Bridges category during the IX International Conference on Structural Engineering, held in Granada from June 25 to 27. ACHE, the prestigious Spanish Structural Engineering Association, has recognized the design and construction of the largest cable-stayed bridge in North America, in which Spanish involvement has been especially significant. At FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores, we are extremely proud to have taken part in this iconic project — a milestone in both Spanish and North American structural engineering. As part of the bridge design and construction process team, together with AECOM and CFC, we developed the geometric control during construction, which made it possible to close the 853-meter main span at midspan without incident. We would like to thank Bridging North America General Partnership (BNA) — the joint venture made up of FlatironDragados, Fluor, and Aecon — for the trust they placed in us, as well as our design team partners. It has been a long journey of nearly seven years since the project owner, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA), awarded the contract. The result, now recognized with the ACHE Award, is proof of what can be achieved through close and effective collaboration between design and construction teams throughout all the phases of such a complex infrastructure project.
