IABSE awards for "Projects and Technology 2024"

IABSE has selected the Deba Bridge as one of the candidates for the IABSE Project and Technology Awards 2024 in the Rehabilitation category. These IABSE 2024 Awards will be held on November 12, 2024, in Zurich, Switzerland. The rehabilitation of the masonry bridge over the Deba River was already awarded last September in Venice during the Europa Nostra 2023 awards, where it also received the first special prize awarded by popular vote. The Deba Bridge was built in 1866, collapsed in 2018, and has been artisanally reconstructed using 19th-century techniques and cutting-edge technology. It was a magnificent example of civil engineering and required extensive historical research on deprecated materials and techniques. FHECOR, along with INJELAN, participated throughout the process, from drafting a diagnostic report (August 2018), developing the proposal for emergency actions and their management (until March 2019), drafting the rehabilitation project (May 2019), and subsequently directing the works (April 2021 – May 2022).
