TARRACO ARENA PLAZA OFFICIAL FACILITY OF THE TARRAGONA MEDITERRANEAN GAMES 2018

The city of Tarragona (Spain) is hosting the 18th edition of the Mediterranean Games 2018 from the 22nd of June to the 1st of July. Tarragona is the main venue of the Games, with the Tarraco Arena Plaza (TAP) as the official facility for the volleyball competition. The Tarraco Arena Plaza is the former renamed Tarragona Bullring, which currently holds a multiuse facility after the remodeling works occurred between 2008 and 2010 based on a Remodeling Project by FHECOR. The works included the construction of the roof covering the bullring, the remodeling of the tiers and the refurbishment of the façade. The roof cover is composed of two parts: a moving part and a non-moving part. The fixed roof with a maximum diameter of 92.40m consists of a spherical steel shell of the well-known Schwedler type. The mobile roof, which is a 40.00m diameter, includes a central glass area 10.00m in diameter in order to improve the light conditions inside the bullring. The fixed roof is supported on four concrete columns, as an independent structure to the existing one.
