AGREEMENT SIGNED FOR THE REHABILITATION OF THE PORT OF SAGUNTO PIER

Last March 27th a collaboration agreement was signed between the Port Authority of Valencia and the local government of Sagunto regarding the rehabilitation of the Sierra Menera pier, a 1200-meter-long structure erected over the Mediterranean Sea between 1975 and 1977 in the Port of Sagunto (Valencia). The pier was originally built with an industrial purpose, related to the activity of the Sierra Menera mining company, and it is now one of the most impressive examples of the structural industrial heritage of Spain. It consists of a concrete superstructure constituted by precast prestressed beams or casted-in-situ slabs depending on the span of the pier, supported by tubular steel piles which have a total length of more than 30 meters long. At the end of 2018, FHECOR carried out the inspection and diagnosis of the state of preservation of the structure and issued a structural viability report in which different rehabilitation alternatives were analyzed. The rehabilitation of the Sierra Menera pier, which is expected to cost over 9 million euros in total, will allow both citizens and visitors to walk over the pier and discover the commercial activity of the port.
