THE FUTURE OF THE ‘TENERIFE SUR’ AIRPORT: THE EXTENSION IS SOON TO BE FINISHED

10/2021

According to the latest forecasts, the extension of the Tenerife Sur’ airport, in the Canary Islands, will be delivered in the first quarter of 2022. This is another project designed by the #Building Department of FHECOR that becomes a reality.
The extension consists of several levels connecting the existing terminals T1 and T2, meaning an increment of the #airport area of around 14,000 sqm, more than 50% of its current surface. The airport will reach an extended capacity of 16 million passengers per year thanks to doubled check-in and boarding areas. These works, led by Sacyr, will suppose the most ambitious modernization and expansion in the history of this airport.
At this moment, the structure is practically finished. The ground level is formed by concrete cast-in-place slab, whereas the above-ground levels are composed of precast concrete hollow-core slabs. These levels are supported by steel and concrete columns. Additionally, the characteristic vaulted roof is carried by curved steel trusses.
We are grateful for having the opportunity to keep adding large airport projects to our portfolio, consolidating us as one of the reference firms in the design of this type of #structure.
