The Centenario Bridge is an exceptional example inside the cable-stayed bridges typology. Its deck, with a span of 265 m, was prefabricated with typical elements of small span bridges. The advanced Spanish bridge design technique at the end of the 20th century is proved by this audacious deck and the white concrete and Corten steel piers. The bridge, built on the occasion of the Seville Expo’ 1992, has since become a singular landmark.

Almost 30 years later, the bridge stays have reached the end of their lifetime and will be replaced. Additionally, the deck will be widened to include an additional lane, thus maintaining three lanes in each direction as in the access viaducts. The solution is based on a proposal made by FHECOR in 2006 for the expansion of another cable-stayed bridge. The design seeks to maintain the bridge's appearance as much as possible slightly enlarging the lateral shafts.

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda has recently approved the construction works according to the project carried out by FHECOR and IDEAM. A very challenging project, in which technique, construction, function, and respect for the existing structure work together.
