UPDATE ON DEBA BRIDGE: FORMWORKS REMOVED

12/2021

The masonry bridge over the Deba estuary (1866) is a special protection asset within the Camino de Santiago Monumental Complex. In July 2018 its central pier's foundations partially collapsed due to the teredos (shipworms) attack on the wooden piles. This fact triggered an emergency intervention to ensure the bridge's stability. FHECOR and INJELAN drew up the rehabilitation project in 2019. They are currently providing Construction Management works.
The central vaults are already reconstructed. Every rock piece has been placed in its new position, and new ones have been crafted. Two weeks ago, we had a big day on the site. The formwork supporting the vaults was successfully removed. The bridge is now working by itself. The works keep moving: workers reconstruct the spandrel walls and pour concrete between them to have a rigid and long-lasting bridge. We´ll soon have the bridge fully working and serving society.
As always, we will keep you posted.
