The joint venture between FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores and M&K INGENIERÍA CIVIL, S.L. has delivered the project of the railway connection to the logistic hub in Murcia, Spain. The client has been the Dirección General de Movilidad y Litoral de la Consejería de Fomento e Infraestructuras de Murcia.
The works comprised the detailed design of the layout of the main railway lane, over 4 km long, which will be connected to the high-speed line between Murcia and Almeria in the future.
Additionally, three structures have been designed to fly over the Guadalentin river and its tributary streams and to maintain the road connection with the logistic hub. The first are two viaducts 350 and 64 m long, respectively, with an 8.50 m wide hollow-slab concrete deck. The third one is a 12,50m long closed-box section underpass, with an 8.0mx5.0m section.
Finally, the project included the design of the track structure and all the electrification, safety, and communication systems. This one is a singular track since it allows trains with both Iberian and International standard track gauges thanks to having three rails.
With a construction budget of around € 23 million, this project will significantly enhance the connectivity of Murcia’s logistic hub, positively impacting rail freight transportation in all the southeast of Spain.
