"CONSTRUCTION WORKS EXHIBITION" IN THE REHABILITATION OF THE DEBA BRIDGE

08/2021

The masonry bridge over the Deba estuary (1866) is a special protection asset within the Camino de Santiago Monumental Complex. In July 2018 its central pier's foundations partially collapsed due to the teredos (shipworms) attack on the wooden piles. This fact triggered an emergency intervention to ensure the bridge's stability. FHECOR and INJELAN drew up the rehabilitation project in 2019. They are currently providing Construction Management works.
A "Construction works exhibition" is open for you to visit, located near Deba's harbor. It contains boards with images showing the bridge's History, the rehabilitation works, the characteristics of masonry bridges, and the most significant stone bridges in Gipuzkoa. The crown jewel is the spectacular stone model made by HARRI, showing the construction techniques of this kind of structure.
Finally, as for works update, they have completed the underpinning of pier 2, and they are starting to remove the filling of the central vaults and to dismantle some parts of the parapet.
We will keep you posted.
