DRAGADOS has recently entrusted FHECOR with the detailed design of the IMPERIAL OCEAN PLAZA, a residential building with commercial spaces on street level, which raises a total height of 54 meters above the street. The project will be developed in a fast-track format in which design process will be simultaneous to the construction phase.
One of the key aspects of the building is its foundation. The building site is located on top of old maritime structures, which could cause construction problems on a pile foundation. Consequently, a 240 mm diameter micropiles foundation has been adopted. The building floors are solid concrete slabs due to the irregularity of the plan scheme of the pillars and the building outline. The vertical structure is composed of concrete columns and two concrete cores around the elevators and stairs. The horizontal actions are of relative importance for being located within a seaside area with a seismic basic acceleration of 0,06 g.
